The main research fields are Chinese modern history and history education. Research directions in recent years: modern social education of China, popular education and grassroots society, popular education and modern state construction, Chinese modern textbooks and the construction of new knowledge, Chinese modern history education issues, etc.

He has presided over more than 10 scientific research projects such as the National Social Science Fund Project, the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science Fund Project, and the Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund Project. He is the author of the “Public Educational Museum and Modern Reconstruction of Grass-roots Society (1928-1937): centered on Jiangsu” (2012), “History Education under the Trend of May Fourth Movement: China Education Improvement Society and the Reform of History Education (1921-1926)”(2016), “Research on Modern History Education in China”(2017), “History Curriculum and Teaching Theory”(2005), “Introduction to History Textbook”(1999) and other monographs or textbooks. More than 70 papers have been published in academic journals such as “Modern Chinese History Studies”, “History Teaching”, “History Teaching Problems”, “Curriculum, Teaching Material and Method”, “E-education Research”, “Education Science Research”, “Lifelong Education Research” and so on. Many of his papers have been reprinted in full by magazines such as Modern Chinese History. The achievement has won the Jiangsu Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, Jiangsu University Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award and Jiangsu Education Science Outstanding Achievement Award, etc.
